Flub,

Point taken about summer tyres being fitted to probaly most cars sold in the UK by all manufacturers. I do suspect, and if my memories are correct, in the early 60's through to the late 70's most tyres that weren't specifically winter tyres probably still had sipes and looked very much like the All Weather/Season tyres of today.

That being said I don't think JLR are wrong providing summer tyres as standard in the UK, where I think they are wrong is that they don't offer any alternatives of Winter and All Weather/Season. In fact, for the Portfolio standard 19" rims in the UK when asked what All Weather rated tyres they would recommend they effectively said they had no idea if anyone even made All Weathers tyres in the size needed!

Given the choice I would have taken an All Weather/Season option when I ordered my car.

I tend to agree about offering the option, even if it has a cost attached. Not sure I understand why they don't.

If I had had the option, I suspect I would have taken all weather tyres as well, as long as they are proper snow/ice rated ones. If they aren't, then there is not much point and I would still have to buy winter tyres for ski trips.

Interestingly I was just talking to a colleague who had his new E-PACE delivered at the weekend. He has some issues with the spec not being quite as ordered, including the fact that he could spec All weather tyres as a no-cost option. Guess what, it was delivered with summer ones.....

Haven't been on the E-PACE configurator to check, but maybe they are now going to offer on F Paces too.....

Totally agree Jim , the choice is what is missing. A choice that undoubtably would suit many people and also saved JLR from flack over jumping tyres etc.

As Flub said earlier it could also be money generating , two set every year instead in one .

I came across this site quite by chance. But I am horrified by the long list of problems you guys are having with the f Pace. I briefly considered buying one but opted for the Lexus NX instead. I have literally had 12,000 miles of flawless motoring. Not a single fault, rattle or squeak. It's the most comfortable and powerful car I have owned. I admit I opted not to buy diesel for certain reasons. It's not for me to say, I suppose, but the extent of the problems you are having with your car is ridiculous in this day and age. You don't need to surfer!

^ . . Hey surfer gykell, thank you for taking time out from your random web trawling to register here and let us know how great your Lexus is.

Please let us know if you have anything you'd like to bring to the forum that might be relevant to us. It'd be so great if you can, otherwise you run the risk of making yourself look like you're just a sad Lexus troll; quite sure you wouldn't want that to be the case!

Some of ours may be slightly less reliable than the British weather, but at least we don't have to look out every morning at something a Japanese teenager drew for a comic book...

lexus-rx-450-2015-12_0.jpg

The NX is only slightly less comical than the RX......

I'd rather have to tow a trailer behind the F Pace to collect all the bits that fall off enroute than one of those....

Autoexpress review from Nov 2017:

Updates to the NX aren't significant enough to change its standing within the mid-size SUV class. The Lexus remains a striking, well-built and stylish family SUV, but it's neither practical nor comfortable enough to trouble the best in the sector. The hybrid powertrain does give strong low-speed refinement, but under acceleration it's coarse and unpleasant. Add in a frustrating infotainment system and the NX remains a left-field choice.

I have now done 7000 miles in my 2 litre petrol Portfolio. No problems whatsoever, brilliant in recent snow driving Carers to do their work (on snow/ice tyres). I cannot fault the car which is now approaching one year old. Brilliant car.

That's cruel, you should have more sympathy for a guy who bought a car as ugly as the Lexus, like all Toyotas they are reliable but totally characterless.

They have a range of tyres the use, when I ordered the car I asked for Conti Cross Contact they have sipes and a M/S rating, the car arrived as ordered. I did not want P Zero at any price, Jaguar get many things wrong but sometimes they do get it right.

Deltasierra, when I checked on the manufacturer's websites (not tyre dealers) all the tyres that are listed by JLR as all weather/season in other regions were rated summer on the UK websites!

Obviously if the tyres are marked M&S, etc. then they are either winter or all weather/season tyres, which just makes it all the more confusing.

I ended up buying Vredestein Quatrac 5 all season tyres for mine once the PZeros needed changing and they are a lot better in snow, ice and slush so far, I will find out how well they do in the summer months later this year.

Jim I have been driving 4x4 cars and pickups for many years and have had a great deal of entertainment watching high performance cars cope with slippery conditions, a good example is BMW X5 with low profile Summer tyres on a grass car park, then it rains. Compare that to a Disco which always has All Season tyres from new which drives straight past and the same happens with the first light snow of winter, it's nothing to do do with electronic traction gizmos it's just the tyres have more grip.

Ribbed tyres are best for dry Tarmac, they are not the best for even wet conditions, F1 cars use a block tread pattern for wet weather not ribbed. For UK conditions a tyre with some sipes or blocks are most suitable, wether they are labeled All Season or not. Looking through the tyre ratings you can see the tread pattern and the off road suitability, many SUV tyres have a 10% off road and M/S rating choose one of those. Winter tyres will give you maybe 5% more grip or you could drive at a lower speed and get the same effect.

Had an new Portfolio F Pace for a few days and the steering started shuddering when at low speed it was as if the tyres were trying to come off the wheels. Called out Jag Assist and they confirmed the issue and stated that they had received many calls of this nature. Given that I had not had the car very long passengers were understandably concerned especially as it was new. Booked the vehicle into a Jaguar dealer locally only to be told by one of the sales team that this happens all the time and is a recognised fault even his vehicle does it. Have lost confidence in the vehicle having had 4x4 for the last 25 years of all makes and models this has never happened before. Just wondered if there are any other owners who have similar problems and what action they took.

Has anyone experienced a rattle from underneath the car?

I noticed it when stationary and revved the engine. The rattle was evident as the engine was revving down and as a judder when the engine was switched off. A technician at the dealers had a quick look. He says there is a TSB out for it and is an exhaust bracket that needs to be changed and JLR are aware

I've booked in for the beginning of May I found the below online and was wondering if anyone on the forum had a repair done under this bulletin.

18 2018 Jaguar F-pace equipment TSB (Bulletin JTB00590NAS1)

Did he actually say what caused this?
It's all good and well reporting this issue and saying it happens all the time ...etc....etc
But without saying what the cause is it's not much help.

If it's recognised I guess there will be a topix document for it too?

Took the car in for the exhaust rattle as described in the above to be fixed.

Turns out the solution to the problem has changed. Jaguar were solving it by replacing a bolt on the front bracket and adding an additional weight to the exhaust which only served to lengthen the period of time until this revealed itself as a problem by rattling when revving.

The Technician took the exhaust off and represented it using different pinch points, apparently some vehicles had not had the exhaust mounted correctly when assembled.

Rattle free now and discernibly quieter when driving.

....I have lots of videos and photo of these faults and might post them here and on Youtube shortly
:? @jascat74 did you ever post the YouTube vids? I'd love to see the problem your F-Pace had to see if they're similar to mine. I've bought a second hand F-Pace from a dealership (40K+) but I didnt' get further than 5 minutes down the road before the "infotainment" system crashed, then the indicators stopped working. They are attempting to resolve the issue but I'm worried the problem is intermittent and other issues will soon raise their head! :(

If it helps:
There are several updates for the Infotainment so check which version your on, latest version is 19A2
The indicator stalk failing there is a topix document for that failing too, solution is replacement.
