My Incontrol subscription is due for renewal and I am debating whether to go fro the standard or the secure option the difference is £224 (£260 or £36) and it appear that the only extra you get is secure tracking if your vehicle gets stolen.

Any thoughts?

That's assuming the current insurance policy was issued on the disclosure and consideration that the car has an active tracker subscription?

Tracker = live data
where as journeys are logged after completed.
There may be a saving from stopping the tracker and updating your insurance policy, but long term should the worst happen, what is your car worth to you vs a replacement the insurance will pay out??
and if you car was recovered would you feel the same about it?

Emailed insurance company last night and their response as follows:

"I can confirm that this won't affect your premium if you decide not to renew the subscription with Jaguar Secure Tracker, however you will need to update this on the policy."

Excellent service and included details of how to make the changes online and see the effect on the premium for the changes made.

I was vey close to just biting the bullet and paying £415 for a two year subscription so I hope this will assist others.

The InControl Secure Tracker is a Thatcham Category 6 tracker. If you end your subscription then you need to tell your insurers and your premium may well go up. Possibly worth asking the question of the insurers now as the overall saving may not be as great as it first appears. I would be interested to hear the outcome.

I do have the secure tracker and paid £260 to renew it last year. I obviously need to check with my insurance company and see if the secure tracker is included in the current policy and what would be the effect of removing it.
I am now wondering if removing the tracker also removes the maps of your journey details, mileage etc. Does anyone know the answer to this?

I think the journeys are part of the Protect subscription. Screenshot from my Remote app, under subscriptions, Protect:

I have checked my policy documents and this is the information that I have provided under security and tracking.

Security: Manufacturer fitted
Tracking device: Other Tracker

I am not sure if this constitutes the additional services that are offered by Jaguar or not. Calling my insurance company will be a call centre so not sure what advice they will be able to give. Whatever was fitted by the manufacturer will presumably still be in place, but not sure if there is an "Other Tracker". If journeys are still available would this count as a tracker?

Any further thoughts?

There are two parts to the factory fitted 'other tracker' - the hardware, which will still be there, plus the subscription to the service that actually does the tracking. The insurance company will expect you to have both as one is useless without the other, so if you cancel the subscription then you will need to tell them you no longer have a tracker. The journey logger doesn't count.

I would still call your insurer. What makes you think they won't be able to answer your question? Worse case they will be able to transfer you or direct you to someone who can.

And then place an Apple AirTag or the Google equivalent in the car. Not full time tracking but cheap and better than nothing. A few weeks ago, the theft of a F-Pace was reported on here. The thieves removed the wires to the GPS antenna (Sharkfin) which resulted in loss of tracking ability.

As a matter of interest when I changed the tracker from "Other tracker" (which I obviously selected at the time) to "No tracker" it made no difference to the premium. I then went back and tried selecting "Jaguar Incontrol Secure" from the list of trackers and still no difference. Settled on "No tracker".

I have to say Jaguar's option is just too expensive. The car has a built in sim, which always work (try making a maintenance call) you have the journeys data, and I'm guessing you still subscribe to remote essentials? That service I'm very happy with.
I have transferred my previous tracker and decided to renew that subscription (4th year) instead @ $60 annually, worldwide coverage (Not UK based company). Better aftermarket trackers can even cut the fuel, and listen in on cabin conversations.
