f pace 2019 , am currently setting up permanent charging from garage into boot , has anyone connected to any particular positive terminal ,see photo, i'm bearing in mind the BMS and would like to avoid any clashes with this. For now the under bonnet is not an option..thanks

Connect the positive on the CTEK to any convenient positive terminal that goes direct to the battery, or if there's provision direct on the positive battery terminal clamp, preferably add a 10A fuse to this wire for protection. The negative should go to any convenient chassis point, not the battery negative. This way the CTEK charge current flowing into the battery will still be monitored by the BMS, which is incorporated into the negative battery cable.

The BMS is the small black box on the negative lead near the clamp. The 2 small cables, 1 is +ve the other CAN bus.

Hello Diesel, have wired up this boot charger and have used car body as my negative, my positive leg is on the top bus bar,the cetek has an inline fuse so used a free cable termination port. I must admit that I never looked at the terminal pointed out by you highlighted green. All works fine ,but I will take another look at your suggestion and move positive over when next down there. Not happy with terminating neg leg of charger on battery for fear of cooking up what's already connected there.... thanks. Jim

@diesel's diagram is perfect and spot-on. He's indicated the ideal locations for a charger to be connected. Using the +ve bus bar and a convenient chassis point for -ve will still be fine. I don't have a permanent connection for my CTEK on the F-Pace (I do on the XKR) as I use the jump-start terminals under the bonnet. No doubt these have a higher resistance back to the battery than the ideal points to use, however it still recharges just fine.

Yes , I was intending on having a ctek extension connected to the under bonnet terminals and just pull out from a location somewhere near front wheel arch should i need jump starting / charging without the faff of trying to get into a locked car and undoing bonnet latch, but as I park up in a reverse manner there is an outside power point from my garage which is convenient to the tailgate of the car and can now be left on permanently without worries. bit of belt and braces stuff really.

Should you ever need it - If the F-Pace battery should ever die and you need to open the tailgate, access the car via the passenger side emergency key hole lock. Unlock the rear doors by stretching over. Fold the rear seats down, climb into the boot area and on the tailgate latch is a small hole to the right. Insert a small screwdriver and move it to the right, this will manually release the tailgate latch.

Not sure if it’s helpful or not, in my Aston Martin V8V I have a charging point in the boot (factory fitted). It uses a 12V car cigarette lighter socket to plug into, saves messing around with crocodile clips and opening bonnet.

I have a ctek msx 5.0 (test and charge) it’s the same as the msx 5.0 charger, conditioner maintainer but with added function of testing battery health and also alternator.

I also bought the 12V lighter connection adapter and a 2m extension cable from ctek.
The 2m extension cable is great as it’s thinner than the main ctek cable so passes through boot seal and then boot lid panel gaps without being bent or damaged by seal (at least on my Vantage) so I can plug it in to charge and still then shut and fully lock my car with alarm on. And if it ever did get damaged I’d only have to replace 2m extension cable and not the full ctek charger.

pretty sure if you wanted an elegant solution you could have similar installed in the f-pace boot and then would only need ti root down to battery under boot floor.

CTEK make a direct connect cable for this exact purpose, directly connect it suitably to the battery and leave in place. I have fitted this to the XKR and it hands about discreetly in the boot. I use a 2m CTEK extension cable, connect to the direct connect cable, route over the tailgate aperture rubber and can easily close the tailgate over it.

Yeap those are a good solution, didn’t see those as said my vantage has the 12v socket manufacturer fitted from new.

still I highly recommend the 2m extension cable as extra to protect the main charger cable. ÂŁ18 to replace if cable did get damaged rather than ÂŁ80-100 for charger unit.

I use the extra 2m cables as the CTEK is mounted on the wall in my workshop close to the shutters, and when connected to the XKR the cable can happily trail over the floor then up into the boot. The F-Pace lives just outside the workshop in the courtyard and the extension cables enable the CTEK to be connected to the under-bonnet terminals with the croc clips. I can route the cable between the headlamp and bonnet then close it. Any damage will just be to an extension cable, but they seem very durable anyway, plus careful handling all should be fine.

Hi folks I acquired a Jaguar labelled CTek charger from my F Type which I removed when I part exchanged it for the F Pace. The above wiring suggestions are ideal but as there is a plug and socket arrangement, any suggestions as to where people have sited the socket on the boot interior trim panels? I was thinking of the plastic trim on the drivers side boot under the parcel shelf where the 12v socket is sited but may be a bit cramped as the back seat release levers are also there. Any suggestions? Cheers

In the 2017 model, there is a cubby on the left hand side of boot at back so also close to tailgate, I have a little official jaguar side net installed here on mine to hold windscreen wash, water and a few other things like picnic blanket.

not sure if you have this cubby, but if you do could be ideal as is not disturbed when you lift boot floor cover to access spare wheel or locking nut attachment etc.

In my XKR the CTEK charge socket is just left loose in the boot after feeding the cable so the boot floor panel can trap it in place, with a short length exposed. I don't have a permanent connection in the F-Pace as the car is used more often than the XKR but I use the under-bonnet battery connection points when required.

Nice! this is the cubby below his fitting I was referring to, I would’ve tried fitting it in the carpet of cubby itself. But that’s just personal preference or opinion. Not sure if my ideal location is even possible either.
