F-Pace 300PS petrol

Post by Bimjob » Fri May 08, 2020 9:41 pm

Good evening folks,
I bought my F-Pace in April 2018 before the SVR was marketed. I had advice about the engines from people who know far more than me.
I had decided to go for the 300PS engine but was persuaded that there were concerns about smaller 2L turbo charged engine producing
so much power. I test drove the 250T and probably should have been arrested. So I thought that was the engine for me as it gave real thrills in dynamic
and was the tiniest petrol engine. So no worries. I love the car.
The V6 has gone and the SVR much as I would love it would be in 2nd gear most of the time.
So the question is have any of of you who have the 300PS 2L petrol engine had any concerns or worries.
From what I read on the forum there's no issue.
Any help would be valued.
Best regards,
Bimjob

Hi Bimjob, I have the 25t R-Sport Loire Blue since january, still running it in... .. ánd I have a P300 F-Type... 8-)

I can say, the 300hp in the F-Type is a briljant engine : torque linear from 1500-4500 rpm, economical and
incredible pickup from any speed...

I can not really compare with the 25t as I never really drove it fast sofar.. .. but I only chose the 25t as the 30t
is very much more expensive here due to CO2 taxation... .. I'd love to get an SVR, if it also had better seats though.

I am 2m and 105Kg : the lower part of the headrest in the SVR sits between my shoulder blades, dreadfull..
Even my son [ 19yrs ], only 1,90m and 95 Kg has this same problem..

Hi Bimjob,

I took a leap of faith and ordered my 300PS in May 2018. At that time there were no demonstrators in Scotland, so it really was a leap of faith! I read a fair bit about it in the American motoring press, where it had been sold for some time, and decided that this was the car for me. I test drove the 250PS and it just didn't have the sort of acceleration I was looking for, especially as I was coming from a 3.0l diesel Range Rover Sport (the most unreliable car I have ever owned!). I have not been disappointed. The car accelerates like a scalded cat (forgive the pun). The acceleration is not only good when going from low speed to high, but also the acceleration from 70mph to 100mph and above is spectacular! I found this out on a track day!!! I have not regretted my purchase one iota. No trouble with the car whatsoever and when lockdown is over, it will be bringing the smile back to my face each time it is driven.

I ordered my 300 Sport nearly 12 months ago, but it too 5 months to turn up.

Coming from a 180d DS, the garage only had the 180d and it just didn't put a smile on my face.. I have not been disappointed. The car accelerates like (censored😉) I love it! No real trouble with the car whatsoever other than a battery top up after most of lockdown being sat unhappily on the drive since mid March.

Looking forward to driving again and keeping an eye out for camera vans!

Same deciding factor for me for 25t as yours.
Anyway 30T it's only 1sec quicker on papers which I am hardly going to notice from 0 to 60.
2.0L is a tiny engine for f pace but again it's doing the job. I feel it gets strained when you try to go past 90mph. So I am glad we don't have autobahn in UK :D otherwise I would have been disappointed.

Thanks for the replies.
Not unexpected positive plus.
You all suggest my initial concern about the smaller capacity engine was misplaced.
I'm sure with 2 years experience you are correct.
Really helpful and unless we are offered another engine I will go for the 300PS
in the near future.
Thanks again,
Bimjob

You may want to check out the 3.0 litre Ingenium petrol engine which is rumoured to be introduced in a facelifted F-Pace. This would be similar to the engine already in some in RR products.

Sorry to be a bit late to this discussion. I have the 30t (which was delivered at the end of February). We haven’t had as severe a lockdown in Western Australia as elsewhere in the world, so I have had a pretty good opportunity to test the car out. I’m very happy with it, and with the engine in particular. It has PLENTY of power, and is as smooth as any car I’ve ever driven. I actually much prefer it to the V6’s I drove for nearly 16 years (I was fortunate enough to have a job which included the right to be be provided with a new car every two years). It seems lighter and much more nimble than they felt (and they were sedans). For what it’s worth, my strong recommendation is: go ahead and get the 30t – you won’t regret it.
