Tyres

Post by gordy » Sat Oct 13, 2018 6:23 pm

I cannot believe that my Continental 255 60 R18 112V tyres have done 26k miles and still have 4mm left. The best I've ever had from a Jag (I've had many over 40 years!!) and thoughts now go to replacement for the winter. Clearly the Contis are favourite but my only complaint is that I find the road noise (2.0d) quite high.
Are there any other long wearing tyres like this but with a quieter ride?

The F-Pace is certainly dainty on its toes - I've done 28k with plenty of wear left. Compares to replacing my first XF rears at 9k.

I used to have to replace front tyres every 12,000 miles on my previous A6 Avant so looking forward to achieving more than that!

Just about to fit Conti 850P winter tyres to mine after 21,000 miles so here’s to no skipping over the winter.

I changed all 4 of my continentals at 25K, on my 3.0d I drive fairly hard but they still had 3mm plus all round. I don't take any chances with tyres or brakes, so I would rather change them and not wait for the legal limit!

I agree as mine are still legal with 2.5 mm at worst but come summer I will buy a summer set and swap them over so between them they should see me over the next few years by which time I will have sold the car and moved on.

Has anyone rotated tyres around front to rear and off side to near side or has this wear been with each tyre in original position? I am about to swop to winter tyres and did think of rotating summer tyres when they next go on, if it makes any difference?

Can the people with the 3.0D, if they are on 20" wheels tell me what tyres tyres they are using. I'm on continentals with 13K on the car and looking at them this weekend I think I've got about 5K left before needing a change. I would normally get easily over 20K on my previous XF so I'm intrigued to know.

Thanks

I have a 3.0 SC with 20" wheels and they have done about 21,000 with about 2 months left on them but I have decided to change my Continental Contact Sport 5 tyres for winter ones. It seems that your 13,000 plus 5,000 is a bit low to me.

I changed my Continental Contact Sport 5 tyres at under 17000 miles so I am not sure where people get all this extra mileage from as I am not a hard driver. The front tyres did have more tread left than the rears and I do change conservatively but the rears would only have been good for maybe another 1 or 2000. I have fitted Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season 255/50R20 XL W instead and hope I get more from these.
