Who came from a D5 or still runs one ??

Post by Dan_Veluwe » Wed Oct 28, 2020 10:20 am

I am facing a dilemma. I used to have a Discovery 3 for ten years. I was really happy with that car, best car ever.

But the tax rules made the annual road tax shoot up to € 3500, as it did not have a DPF. So I sold it to a guy in Luxembourg.

I bought an F-Pace for many reasons, one being it has the underpinnings of my F-Type, that I really love to drive.

But due to budget I bought too cheap a stock car, failing options I want. Also the car fails the cave like stowage possibilities.

So I am currently looking at a 2018 Discovery SD4, reasonably priced, with a fair trade in price for my F-Pace...

Question : who did this move [ or from a D5 to an F-Pace..] , and what do you think of this change now ??

I am 50/50 devided on this issue. Have to decide today or the quote runs out...

Any thoughts please ? :?

Well while I was doing in and out of dealer for my f pace repairs I had a chance to drive the SD4 loan car for a week huge huge car..... Spacious, comfortable, I think it is the size of Range Rover +-.
Personally not a fan of huge cars, f pace size was just about right for me.
One thing I noted was since you are sitting really high compared to Fpace I was able to squeeze in places where I wouldn't try on Fpace.
That is a one good looking people carrier 4x4 on road I would say.
You will miss the f pace sporty drive for sure.
Which I still miss.

@Jalees.
Thanks for your observations ! I am tall and big, so the D5 'suits' met better !

For the sporty bit I have the F-Type..

Had I thought it out better, I would have bought the F-Pace 30t, and skip the F-Type.
But then I still had the D3 we were all crazy about, still are.. .. impossible to surpass that car !

I came from a D5 it was one of the biggest mistakes I ever made and I ran Sherpa 350 vans back in the day (They were shocking vans from the 80s)

I had the 3lt TD6 and it was plauged with oil dilution and electrical issues I had also run D3 and D4s for many years with no issues so imagine my disappiontment. I am aware from other forums the 2lt version is even more prone to oil dilution so proceed with caution.

I am not so tall 5' 7" and the F Pace fits my life style ... kids have all left home and just me the Mrs and the dog.

I hope you get a good one but if you do proceed I would over service in repect to oil changes, just my opinion.

Best of luck

@Jdr0-3.
Thanks ! I am aware of the dilution issues. But on the D5 forum they said a motormanagement update about a year ago
made an end to the dilution problem. Anyway, this car already had a new engine, only did 10k miles since...

I do not expect many electrical issues. Everything works fine in the car I drove, two years old. So why should it go off suddenly..
