Looks to me like JLR has hit diminishing returns on SUV sales and is now cannibalising its own market - EPace taking F Pace sales, Velar doing the same for RRS and Evoque. Ultimately not helped by the public deciding Diesel is the devil's fuel because the Daily Mail says so.

The bright spot to me looks like the I-Pace - I saw one in the local Jaguar dealer and it looked fantastic. Trouble is if they can't get the ICTP system to work in my FPace I don't hold out much hope for the tech needed to make IPace work reliably.

Interesting times. Personally, I'm having change from an SUV when my lease is up.

Lots of speculative 'shoulda-woulda-coulda' in this article, but interesting reading nonetheless...
Jaguar considers transformation to EV-only brand
https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/indu ... only-brand

Let's face it, they're going to have to anyway if they're going to survive, because the car market is inevitably heading that way . . zero emissions . . consumers want more of this, more cheaply and more quickly.

Dont expect too much advantage in using lower waged conuntries for manufacture of high tech products. What other companies have found, to get the quality you have to pay premium wages and taking account of logistics little was gained. Most of the vehicles produced in low wage countries are low tech and the IPace is not low tech

Are the dice now loaded for TATA to sell JLR.?

Tata stock fall 20 %

Shareholders unrest

Meanwhile another report, this time by Motilal Oswal Securities Ltd, mirroring other analysts, indicates a 35% and 13% cut in Tata's earnings estimates for FY19 and FY20, respectively. This was prior to the news of the JLR Solihull plant shutdown.

The F-Pace may well be a good selling product but that alone will not save Jaguar, gone are the days when a company can rely on one model!
As far as Slovakia is concerned the story goes that it is to manufacture the discovery, however the line is the set up to produce all of the vehicles that are currently produced in Solihull, go figure!

On the BBC Business News website tonight: JLR announce £90 million pre-tax losses for the quarter, ending September, as sales slide 13%

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46045334

. . . sales in China are well down for JLR, whereas other luxury car makers are still doing well there, even increasing sales.

So, where has it all gone so wrong for JLR?

Summed up nicely on the Discovery Forums with many rejections as Quality ....

JLR announced* that sales of the D8 platform Discovery Sport and Evoque (collectively referred to as "models later in their life cycle") were down by 36.4% and 40.7% respectively compared to a year ago.

Ralf Speth blamed a predictable combination of external factors for the firm's poor performance (anything he isn't responsible for) but Professor David Bailey of Aston Business School said that the company's QA and production process could also be partly responsible and therefore might need reviewing. Prof. Bailey is a respected figure within the automotive sector who is well known for using his academic work, blogs and media network to push the case for supporting the auto industry, in particular to generate support for the firm Jaguar Land Rover (wiki).

Referring to JLR's Q2 results he said, "Driving efficiency savings will mean things like getting costs down and could have implications for the supply chain. They could also look at improving quality and having fewer corrections coming off the production line and, yes, I would expect to see more production cuts and job losses."

I am surprised you asked that question.

Quality, Customer Service and faults all eventually cost sales as the word gets out there is issue's, all drive down sales and hits bottom line figures.

Hi all, ... did go to local dealer to get wife’s Evoque updated to latest software while we went off to Scotland to visit a puppy litter sired by our dog in summer! ..... anyway whilst there I spoke to the sales manager about the prospect of the RRS 400e as this might make sense as my daily commute is only 5 miles on country road with not much over 40-50 mph limit.
Thinking he would bite my arm off ... given the recent sales figures he calmly said well all our production cars are sold in to next year and there is zero chance of any discounts while demand is this high!! Given the price of the RRS and especially the £3750 SVO paint option I like,.... I will probably be looking elsewhere for a better deal ..... even a short term lease option from Volvo is looking much better value!!
Maybe dealers are being instructed from JLR to “ KEEP CALM AND PRETEND NOTHING IS WRONG “ ... who knows ?

Regards JC.
