Terminology

Post by goddo » Fri Nov 22, 2019 1:03 pm

Good afternoon all, I am brand new to this forum (enrolled earlier today).
I do not currently own an F-Pace but I am seriously looking, particularly
at the petrol variants in the second hand market.
I have spoken to a garage that are advertising a 25T I R-Sport 2017 spec.
Can some tell me if the "I" stands for Ingenium? I have not seen this on
any other advertisement.
Also, what is the general consensus on the 25T? One to be avoided or are
they OK? I obviously realise that the 3 litre engine would be more powerful
but they are outside my budget at the moment.

Welcome,

Well 25T is 2.0 litre petrol with 250bhp , 0 to 60 in 6.7 secs so it's already pretty good in response. Mpg you would avg. somewhere 23 to 27 depending what's your usage. I bit not sure maybe dealer wants to say like you already mentioned Ingenium.
Overall good car but built quality is a bit lacking that's my experience but again there is nothing available in that price range with this size and practicality.

Thanks.

Regards,
KJ

I have also heard that the later "Infotainment" (Radio/satnav/telephone connection etc) unit is not so good or reliable as the previous version.
Is this correct?

Hi,

Well there are 2 versions of it 1 is ICTP Pro which is full screen 10inch with no physical buttons which I happen to have. When I bought car in November 2018 it had few glitches one it use to forget the last selected colour of ambient lighting when car use to turned back on and the other was the navigation use to die completely while navigating. So far from there till now it's been updated with software updates and I got apple car play and Android auto so far all is good. Everyday I connect my phone via Bluetooth make and receive calls no issues, in background radio is running so far no issues, sometimes I use navigation which now mostly use android auto so no issues there.

There is one more infotainment system which is smaller screen and with physical buttons on side that used to be the default basic one in earlier models I can't comment on that one maybe someone else can who has it.

Well only thing I would.like infotainment to have is steering control for selecting contacts which there isn't and you have to take your eyes off the road to touch the line on screen, there is speech control as well but I have not used it.
It's not too bad as long as it works, I don't use browser I don't use other functions also I have switched of some auto features like day mode night mode so maybe it's not overloaded.

Thanks.

Regards,
KJ

Hi Goddo,
I bought my 25T R-Sport new in August 2018. My original plan was for the 300BHP version but knowledgeable friends worried about the output from a smaller twin turbo engine. My dealer whom I trusted said there was little difference. I test drove the 25T and realised it was aggressive and powerful enough driven in dynamic mode and I needed no more fun. I've had no problems and the driving experience is wonderful and exciting.
Yours must be a VERY early 25T as I only started looking when the petrol versions came out and that was a couple of months before I ordered in April 2018. The ICTP which I have is fantastic and I have been able to download new software easily-the version on your car I cannot comment on but there are threads here you could explore. This is worth looking into I think.
Best driving decision I've made and although I thought about the 380BHP V6 which is now not available new I'm sure I made the right decision.
Go for it if the price is right. The engine is a gem.

If you ask me I like the way car looks there is no other car that looks so cool , Q5 looks wise it's OK , if I had enough money then might have gone for Porsche Cayenne that is the only alternative I see for FPace. All other cars are either smaller or get expensive and looks bad.

To answer your question regarding the I designation in the model terminology, this is not an official designation. I suggest you ask the dealer what he thinks it means. The official designation for the engine is an i4P (ingenium - 4-cylinder - petrol) . Hope this helps you out. The engine (built in JLR's engine plant in Wolverhampton) has been around for quite a while in various power outputs and is getting an excellent reputation. Google it and you'll get many good reviews.
MY19 R-SPORT, Caesium Blue, Ingenium i4 300PS Turbo Petrol, AWD with all the bells and whistles.

Bimjob, I haven't bought this particular car yet. It's a January 2018 registered (67 plate) 246BHP and covered 14000 miles.
We are going to have a look at it tomorrow with a totally open mind but it's useful to have some owner feedback as ammunition.
Over the years I have purchased any number of cars and I feel that an "in-the-flesh" look over is the way to go.
I also hope that I buy with my head rather than my heart (apart from an Aston Matin DB9 that I fell in love with about five years ago)
I tried to tell my wife that it was an "investment". She didn't believe me funnily enough.
Seriously, if a push comes to a shove, we will continue searching as there is no immediate rush to change.

Hi Goddo,
I could have gone for the 380BHp V6.
My original plan was the 300BHP engine.
I drove the 25T and in dynamic mode realised that anything more would be great in Scotland
but I am not there. Its a great engine in a great car.
You need no more power.
If the price is right then I would ensure future happiness.
She may believe you if you tell her its the tiniest petrol engine they do and so you are Mr. Green Life.
Or you could think about the damage you could do if you went for the SVR?
Best choice I ever made car wise,
Bimjob

I can't comment on the 25t petrol engine other than to say there are a lot of excited owners on here. For the driving experience I would recommend Jaguar. I just can't wait for an excuse for a road trip and that hasn't worn off yet since April 2018! I can't believe it will have been two years of ownership in April 2020. As others have said, I looked across the car park yesterday and there was not a single car that came close to mine in looks and nothing else I envied and a 220 mile round trip yesterday was a breeze in horrible wet conditions with ADSR on. Hope you find a good example.
3.0d S, Santorini black, black pack, 22" black rims, LEDs, Priv, 350W, ICTP, Ebony interior, AdSR, space saver, config ambient, remote release, lumbar, winter pack, rear recline. Build date Friday 13/4/18 :D
