Oil analysis ingenium diesel

Post by big jon » Fri Aug 10, 2018 5:23 pm

I have just been reading some reports on the Discovery Sport forum about oil testing.
It is not good reading with very high metal content in samples taken and high diesel dilution even on cars tested at 4k miles and less.
Should we be worried :o

On the DS m this is related to the oil dilution issue due to a poorly designed DPF system.
As the engine is transverse mounted and a lack of space near the engine , the SCRF (DPF) is situated too far down the exhaust .

The issue then is that when it does an active DPF regeneration every 250 or thereabouts mikes, it keeps pushing fuel into the oil through the cylinders. This oil dilution is worst on the DS as it needs al longer time to get to correct engine temperature for the SCRF to be effective.

It affects more than just the DS , it affects the Evoque and D5 and Velar in some Diesel engine variants.

Some folks getting a service every 5000 miles on the D5.
One of the reasons I ditched my last DS

Probably one of the longest threads on the DS, oil dilution and servicing.

Poll of users servicing timings , not many got to 21000 , those that did , had no service warning light so were unaware of the problem .

JLR blame it on driving style

Yes E pace affected to , there is a bulletin with all the affected vehicles
JLRP00100

Here’s the list ..

JLR state “ hardware and architectural differences “ as the cause , aka design fault , then state educate the driver as to driving style.
They give free oil and filters for life of your warranty. But only if you have a service plan.
Out of warranty you foot the additional costs yourself

It also affects the non transverse RRS and D5 3L diesels.
