SVR brakes - warranty
SVR brakes - warranty
I'm considering a MY21 SVR having had 2 Supercharged V6s.
As a number of people have found out, the quality of brake discs on the non-SVR range leaves something to be desired, especially as JLR no longer consider warranty claims for corroding discs/pads replacement.
Have those who have had the current SVR for a period of time had any issues with the quality of the brakes and possibly leading to warranty work?
Thanks

Re: SVR brakes - warranty
My SVR was a year old in September and so far my health checks says all is fine with the brakes. However, they are squeaky as hell! It is almost embarrassing to be honest.

Car is 18 months old and can’t say I have had issues.
Re: SVR brakes - warranty
Mines nearly a year old and around 7.5k miles and apart from some squeaking in the first 6 months, fingers crossed, nothing since. As for corrosion, mine seem to be ok.

Thanks guys for your info and pics. Looks to me like less of an issue than the quality of non-SVR brakes.

You won’t be disappointed with the SVR, especially if it sounds as good as the MY20,

You will very likely to be using the brakes on an SVR frequently, they won’t have time to corrode

I don’t know if it’s just me or not, but I don’t use them that much as when it slows down the gearbox tends to change down (in auto, not using the paddles) as I slow, so much so I only need to brake from the last 5mph or so, obviously that’s when I’m just pottering around (a lot of 20/30mph zones) you do get the odd times when someone else is being a numpty and pulls out from a side road / into your lane on a m/way, when just taking your foot off of the loud peddle ain’t enough, but as far as I can remember, this is the only auto I’ve driven that when you take your foot off to slow down it is really noticeable how it changes down gears to aid slowing.

My car is 20 months and 13k miles old and brakes still squeak a bit but otherwise do a good job - have hardly driven her in last 9 months due to COVID and working from home (12k in first year and just 1k in last 8 months) but still a pleasure to take to the supermarket. Can see myself keeping the SVR for a good few years more....then will probably have to go electric.

Re: SVR brakes - warranty
The worse thing for any braking system is the harsh acid based wheel cleaners that are out there. I will never take my car to be hand washed because for among many reasons they use acid based wheel cleaners...... I never even let the dealerships wash my car either. So this will be a contributing factor if you use such a thing. Break dust is also corrosive and then throw into the equation all of the road salt at this time of year on our roads and your poor old wheels, discs and callipers take a real hammering!! The thing to do as I do, is to invest in some wheel Woolies and properly wash your wheels on a regular basis.
