been given the wrong interior trim

Post by Malk » Wed Mar 22, 2017 11:22 pm

I went to the Jaguar dealer to configure my R Sport, I made it quite clear I wanted the Oyster and Black option, we even had the sample swatches on the desk, we were shown one in the dealership at the time, in my mind there was no question about what we had ordered, we had let the dealership do the configuration as I did not trust myself to get all the details correct, we were in no hurry so the experience was not rushed. On completion I asked for the final design to be sent to me so I could check it ..... This never happened ..... I sent the salesman an email to remind him to do this a again ..... again I had no reply and having asked twice the matter went out of my mind .... Later I found out that the salesman had left the dealership and I now guess that is why I had no reply. I collected my car this week to find that the leather trim was the default black and not what I had believed to have been ordered I felt absolutely sick that the mess up had occurred especially as I had wanted who I had thought was a specialist doing the configuration .... My first instinct was to refuse to sign off the car .... the dealership has confirmed they will fix the issue I am very concerned of what will happen now .... they have said they will get there independent leather specialist to put it right, I am awaiting to see what happens next .... to me the best way forward would be to simply let Jaguar in Coventry to take the car and swap the seats and door panels over keep the black ones and use them on another car whilst they are new. Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter please.

Not a huge issue with this car.... As long as they don't change the dash, you should be fine...

Just make sure your trim remains unmarked after the dealer has swapped the seats...

Careful inspection required before accepting handover....

You're not the first by a long way. A number of people have also had the leather changed. Have a search but let me know if you don't find them easily and I will have a look for you.

Think you will be ok. The fact they are letting a leather specialist do it as well bodes well.
A fair few of us have had the leather replaced. I had all my seats redone and you wouldn't know (except they look better than they did from factory). See it as a positive to get them done properly :) .

Hopefully will all work out fine for you. Bit of a pain as the car will be away for a few days but fixable.

This is why it's important to get the build sheet checked, it's unfortunate that you have the wrong interior but if the dealer had been better at there job this situation would not have happened, the dealer would have still picked up your emails even if the sales person has left.

What are they offering you as compensation for your issues.

This happened to me. Ordered a Grey car with oyster lining. It arrived with brown interior and black roof lining. Doing a swap at the manufacturer was what I thought but easier said than done. With the incorrect spec I recieved I would get killed on the resale value. They knew they had screwed up and gave me two options which were reject and wait for the correct spec to arrive or have a specialist redo both the lining and seating. On a new way...that would mean removing the seats and replacing the roof lining. If you saw some of the cars that were on tour that were done by hand versus the factory finish...there was a stark contrast. My dealer sent me the order form that goes onto the JLR system for the replacement which arrived correct only to develop a fault within 30 days. After two disastrous experiences with Jaguar, I rejected the car and received a full refund and have moved on from the brand. The car was a beauty to drive though. You are within your right to reject the vehicle as protected under the Consumer Protection Act 2015 if you are in the UK as the vehicle did not arrive as described. For me, I rejected it on the basis that it was of unsatisfactory quality.

Good luck with the decision you make.

Not sure why they'd need a leather specialist to do it. I'd have thought it would be a very simple matter to switch out the seats, door cards, and armrests for ones in the correct colour.

That said, I had a similar situation with my XF in that the dealer ordered the car with the wrong seat memory pack, and this cannot be retrofitted. So they're building me a new car and will do a straight swap.

I'd be interested to know which dealer you bought from if you don't mind letting me know in a private message?
