Traffic info

Post by SarahH » Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:33 pm

Hi - i’ve recently bought a used Jaguar F pace and i’m struggling to get traffic updates. I’ve just learnt today that I need a SIM card (unfortunately the dealership didn’t mention this 😬), but is it possible to get traffic info on routes without this ?

This link should help:

My ICT Pro+Sim shows traffic on the map, but I never see traffic alerts, even when navigation is active. My old XF, which just had the RDS traffic info used to constantly tell me about traffic and offer to re-route me (which I normally declined as the traffic had invariably cleared). I'm not sure if ICT Pro is re-routing without telling me, but I can't find any options to enable an option to re-route.

This is what the online Owner's Info manual offers... the last of the 'notes' says you need a live internet connection

You do not need a SIM card, you can set up a mobile hotspot on your phone and connect the car to that. Simples 😀

It works! I had read that section of the manual but never grasped the significance of it until I saw your post. Since I have only used 1.5Gb out of 12Gb in a year then to use the (under-utilised) data allowance on the mobile makes much more sense.

Thanks SilverCat.

So, I got hold of a data SIM card to try. It installed ok. I have both a 4G and WIFI symbol.

I really want to have 'real time traffic flow' available (I love that function on googlemaps).

I am on standard ICT, not ICTPro and can't see anything about real time traffic flow. Is it that this is therefore not available for my vehicle?

If so what does the SIM card actually do for navigation??

Quick update - had a long motorway drive last weekend, the first one since having the data SIM installed.

It's didn't appear to make any difference what-so-ever.

So still none the wiser about what having the SIM plugged in adds for the standard ICT set-up in terms of navigation?

Anyone know for definite?

LF, I regret to say that if you have the basic ICT then the Sim adds nothing to the provision of traffic data, which comes via RDS; all it does is to provide a mobile data wifi hotspot in the car.
