Clunking Noise from Front Suspension

Kept getting this "clunking" noise (engineer's ears) from my front suspension particularly bad at low speeds when turning corners and over rough road surfaces. Checked it in to Taggarts Glasgow who found the fault to be 2 x badly worn Track Rod Ends (the joint that attaches the steering to the suspension)! Car now perfect and Taggarts service carried out under warranty was excellent. However my Fpace is only a year old and with 16,000 mls on clock wouldn't have expected to be replacing Track Rod Ends this early. Musty have been poorly fitted or faulty components when the car was built. Keep your ears sharp particularly with the current state of our road surfaces!

I am getting clunking from front at low speed up to 10 mph on acceleration then again lifting off.
It seem to eminate from dashboard/steering area. But it stops when warmed up.
Is this the same for you?

Have my car booked in for first service in 3 weeks at 11,000 miles. I have noisy front suspension on my car and some very odd wear on front tyres. Central but towards outside so it is not tyre pressures as that is usually dead centre if over inflated.

Hopefully nothing too serious I will post update asap.

Hi Barthog,
I don't think you have the same problem as I had. Quick check would be that if you wiggle the steering whilst stationary you can here the Track Rod Ends "clunking". (as described by the Jaguar mechanic!!)

Thanks June16 very interesting. Looks like I got one of the affected models. After the winter we've had up here in Scotland it wouldn't take much to contaminate a joint if the sealing was inadequate!
My arthritic knees whole hearted agree with this! :)

What surprises me is that they are waiting for cars to go in for service before dealing with this, if you have no issues it could be up to 2 years before it is checked.

One side effect is irregular tyre wear so I agree if you hear clunking get it seen to , else your tyres will become an additional cost related to this lack of sealing.

I'd suggest next time your going to the dealer to ask to have this checked , better to be proactive at times.

I have a 2017 f pace s it has had a clunking noise coming from the front end I believe the noise is coming from the ball joints! I brought the vehicle in for this complaint twice. I have 12000 miles on the vehicle! I was told by 2 different jaguar services that there was no problems found and that the ball joints were regreased and the ball joints were fine! I am still experiencing the clicking noise and can feel it also!!! I guess jaguar is waiting for my wheel to fall off before they admit that there are problems with the front end!! Hopefully no one will get hurt or killed from this problem that they continue to ignore!!!

my car is a MY2017 and shortly after delivery it was in for ICTP update and they said it was due for a recall and both track rod ends were replaced.
I remember a few having the same done about Feb 2017.

The early FPace models suffered from Track Rod End failure due to poor seals causing dirt to enter and lubricant to leak. I had a similar problem and had both Track Rod Ends replaced after 16,000mls which cured the problem and have now done 40,000mls with no more issues. (See earlier thread)
