Rims upgrade

Post by AlanBE » Tue Jun 25, 2019 1:21 pm

Hi all, I've replaced my standard rims with some 22" GMP Stellars. 8-)
The tires are Pirelli Pzero 265

Nice. How do you find the handling now vs before?

It handles much better than before. (it felt like a boat before)
However, fuel consumption went up 10% and I fear these tires won't last 30000 miles like the previous ones.

But I really like the new looks, after 2 years I still drive around with a big smile on my face ;)

The temptation will be to corner faster. I think I would sacrifice some fuel consumption for overall better handling on 22" rims. I am not really sure what motoring journalist were on when reporting poor ride. In my opinion it's worse on the 20" and yes a boat comparison is apt!

10% increased fuel consumption is a bit surprising. I guess they are wider.

265/40/R22 vs 255/50/R20 on tyre size - does that translate exactly into mm of width if so 10mm wider.

I would expect 10% worse fuel economy moving from 255/60/18 to 265/40/22. I have gone for the 22's, will see in September how the ride is.

I think the OP means his fuel consumption went up 10%... so he’s getting 10% worse MPG.
i.e. he now consumes more fuel!

I must admit your original allows were god damn ugly and more suited to a white van.
New ones are certainly better.
