Next month at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015, the Jaguar F-Pace will debut in production guise exactly two years after it was unveiled in concept specification.

According to newly emerged reports, the F-Pace will be priced around the £30,000 mark in its home market of the United Kingdom. That price point will not only put it in line with the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Porsche Macan but also directly against both the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

Jaguar describes the F-Pace as more of a "performance crossover" rathen than a traditional SUV. The name purposely aligns it with the F-Type sports car and distances it from the more rugged products offered by sister company Land Rover. Despite the performance bias, we're expecting a range of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines to sit alongside a hot supercharged V8 variant, possibly carrying the F-Pace SVR badge.

The Jaguar F-Pace will go on sale globally in 2016, including Australia around July. It will join the just-launched XE, the updated XJ due at the end of this year, and the new XF due around March 2016.

The F-Pace is the first SUV ever offered by Coventry's finest, and who better to help with developing its first off-roader than Land Rover? If all goes as expected, the F-Pace could be one of the most important models in Jaguar's illustrious history, and also represents the closest collaboration yet between Jaguar and Land Rover (which has been paired on-and-off by three different owners since 1968). The go-anywhere Jag is loosely based on the new XE's platform, albeit in a beefier guise. Like the sport sedan, it utilises and aluminium-intensive construction to keep weight down, and will be powered by JLR's new Ingenium line of turbocharged engines.
