How do you know when DPF regen is taking place?

I don't understand how it can be annoying you having to continue to drive the car because of a regen when you don't know it's happening doesn't make sense. Why do you continue to drive it?
So basically you leave the car running for ever?
If you do get a warning then just plan a motorway drive to clear it just as you would if a tyre pressure warning came on you would go to the garage to pump it up.
Had mine for 2 years noticed burning smell half a dozen times never had any warnings.The app tells you if any problems as a backup.
If there is a problem and it has to go to the dealers then get annoyed.
