I live a stones throw from the Solihull plant where it is being built so see a lot of the test vehicles being di ben around. I have been to the launch at Castle Brom which was great to see the vehicle but I was disappointed at how little the reps there knew about the vehicle.

I asked questions like:
Does the browser on intouch pro work while the vehicle is in motion?
Do the memory seat options also move the electric mirrors, steering wheel etc? The demo one didn't and the "expert" didn't know if the finished production vehicle would.
I asked whether the mood lighting was configurable with the two different keys or the memory option eg if my wife drives on her key will the mood lighting change to red then when I drive with my key the next day on my memory setting it go back to blue?
Does the sunroof close automatically when you lock the car like Audi's do?
The portfolio gives you an option to specify sport seats at an extra cost (I assume the ones from the R-Sport), can you therefore specify the two colour leather from the R-Sport if you opt for this option

Strange that the specialist who is currently going around the country answering questions of the F-Pace didn't know the answer to these questions . I asked him what happened when he drove it and he told me he hadn't driven it!

Anyway the good news is that one of my relatives is a director at Jag and is getting a vehicle for me to drive for a few hours next weekend which will be an actual production F-Pace so hopefully I can find out myself.

My order was for a 2.0 AWD R-Sport, Storm Grey, intouch pro. pan roof, memory seats, mood lighting, swivel tow bar, reverse camera, gesture tailgate, adaptive cruise, queue assist, home link, rear camera, blind spot monitor, keyless entry and of course the all important and ridiculous cup holder cover for £50!

As I'm driving a production model (think it will be. 3.0S) does anyone have any questions they want me to check out while I'm at it?

Quality of interior and leather be interesting. Saw an XE and it was pretty horrible material for seats etc.

Sound of engine particularly if it's the petrol model.
Driving position and views / feel

Sound system - which one you got in there and any feedback.

Size wheels and ride ?

Just your thoughts really and anything else you didn't think of or was expecting

Most of these things you could find out from sitting in one at one of the launches. Have you not sat in one yet? I have sat in several now.

The leather is very nice, its the same one in an Evoque. I am not sure the difference between the sport seats and the portfolio though. The configurator suggests its more than just colour. I would say the quality of the interior is better than any SUV I have been in except for the range rover and even then that is to do with taste.

I have already pumped the sound system, its on a par with the Bang and Olufsen available in the Audi. I tried the 380w Intouch pro.

No aldo. Haven't seen one or sat in one.
I booked one of the events but completely forgot about it so right now just awaiting the dealer demo due in April.

Good to know about the interior - I've also gone the 380w pro so good to hear also :)
Thanks

Im guessing you've only sat in the Portfolio version because there's a difference in the finish of the leathers depending on version. The Portfolio has a smooth leather similar on feel and appearance to that of Audi and my RRSport but the S has a coarser grain that one would associate with poorer quality leather, not entirely sure if this is true but it's the opinion most would make on seeing it.

I myself have had similar finish leather in a BMW which proved quite durable so I'm happy enough but given the choice I would have preferred the leather of the Portfolio in my 3.0dS

The grained leather found in a lot of cars is durable because it's what they call 'bonded leather' - in real terms it's man made with a small percentage of leather included which is why manufactures get away with it.

In my opinion leather should only be called leather when it's a majority percentage another untruth they manage to get away with, along with mpg figures you will never be able to obtain and CO2 in the case of VW that they falsify.

I think that's it. I've got an XF portfolio and it's lovely leather. That course stuff you mention is it like a hardened almost plastic feel stuff. I hate that and that's what I saw in the XE the guy showed me when last there.
Feels cheap and nasty even if it isn't.
I'd like to get feedback on the stuff that's in the 3.0 S

Thanks

I believe it's the same as in the XE. Take a look at the videos on here on the close up review and you can see.

Only the Portfolio and First Edition have the smooth leather.

Although the sport version is top of the range it gets the Taurus leather that is the man made reconstituted leather (not real leather). This is used by a number of other brands ( BMW use it on the X3 for example) but feels fake and nasty.

What I don't understand is why they use it in the most expensive version of their SUV and there is no option for real leather. It just does not compute.

Well that's a bugger. The XE leather is awful. Not much I can do about it now just have to hope it looks better, feels better or I just get used to it and put up with it.

Not sure the R-Sport is "top of the range", it is only the expensive version at the moment because it is available with the larger engines, if you plump for the 2L engine the Portfolio is "top of the range" being the luxury version, there will be in due course bigger engines available for the Portfolio and then it might hold that mantle in the customers eyes... ;)

I think L4L means the S not the R-Sport

Did you get to drive it this weekend? Figured I would ask to save me checking the forum every 20 mins waiting on a verdict? :)
Unfortunately not, the vehicle wasn't available when I had finished work. If I had known I would have taken the day off!

He has promised me some time this week. Will keep you posted.
