For anyone who has taken up the activity key option, I had a bizarre experience a week ago. I left the smart key in the car, locked up using the activity key, went for a run and unlocked the car when I came back with the activity key. Unfortunately that's all I could do - I couldn't start the car, and it had to be recovered to Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton.

It seems that the smart key wasn't fully activated again after I opened the car (it would lock and unlock the car, but not switch it on). Jaguar have played with it for a week, and the only thing that they've come back with is to leave the smart key in the boot as that's closest to where the sensor lives. Not hugely reassuring that they have cracked the issue...

I've seen video reviews where it's clear the activity key is a bit hit and miss. My problem with that is the loss of confidence. If I was in the middle of nowhere and this happened then I would mighty dischuffed.

As a result I have concluded that this little bit of technology is beta and not for me quite yet. £300 isn't a huge amount to spend on what could be a nifty concept but not if my time hiking in the Alps or skiing is spent with a niggling worry in the back of my mind about wither ADAC are nearby for a call out. Defeats the object of the exercise really.

Pass on this one.

I too had seen people struggle but then I saw others use it correctly, and it worked fine. I believe the boot button needs depressing for minimum of 2 secs to allow Activity key the release the locks.
