Hi all

I'm considering an F Pace instead of a Velar purely as I could get a good deal. My question is are the 300 sport and chequered flag editions mean there is a looming facelift? Usually when car companies load cars it's usually to get rid of the current line quickly!! So do I hold fire??

Also, any views on the 240 Diesel engine? Is it enough? And any optional extras you would never do without? Only had Landrovers/Range Rovers before so a bit nervous going to Jaguar brand!

Hi Sirrah, welcome. I don't believe there is a change of design forthcoming for the F-Pace, but there are some on this forum that are better informed than I am on such matters. Like you, I am an ex-Range Rover owner. I had a Full Fat RR, plus 2 Range Rover Sports. This is my first Jaguar and for me, it was the best move I ever made. I find the F-Pace is smoother and more sporty than the RRS - maybe be not as good on REAL 4X4 routes and lanes, but how often do you venture fourth into the wastelands? The FP is a great vehicle in the snow, which is why I continue to buy AWD vehicles. The only thing that took me a while to get used to was the driving position. You are not sat on top of the vehicle in the "command driving" position, you sit in this car, right in it its cockpit. Held firmly in position by the seats which are equally as comfortable as the RRS.

Don't know about the 240D engine, but the Ingenium range generally get good reviews. As for optional extras, these are very personal (you will have experience from your RR - the Jaguar ones are the same. If not in form, then in function! The only thing extra I would not live without in ANY car now, is the heated steering wheel!!! There does seem to be some difference in the build quality of Jaguar (for the better), which is surprising as they come off the same production line in Solihull as the RRS! I have had no problems with my car at all other than it needing an ICTP software update. That will soon be a thing of the past as JLR inform us that we will be able to receive OTA (Over the Air) updates in the not too distant future..... believe it if you will!!

Why did I change from RRS? For me, it ceased to be value for money. It is over priced in the first place then after 3 years it drops a third in value, crazy!! My F-Pace was the closest in spec to the old RRS I could get with a petrol engine, yet it was £12,000 less than the equivalent Range Rover Sport. I do not see £12,000 difference. I hate the Velar, 'nuff said!

Get down to the dealer get a weekend test drive and see if you can see the difference in value.

Best of luck.

Hi Jock
Thanks for your comments, I'm heading to the dealer tomorrow to see what's what!! How many MPG do you get on your 3 lite petrol?

Hi Sirrah,
I originally thought the 300 was my car but then drove the 250 and realised that I could be arrested very quickly .
If you want a petrol engine then it is enough-in spades.
The 25T is a wonderful engine with real power in low and mid range revs. My dealer advised me that there was not much diff.
between the two. If you want real power then go for the SVR-if you want aggressive power that may be legal then the 250T is a good bet.
I have the R-Sport options and am ecstatic. Loire blue?

First of all, it is a 2.0l petrol engine tuned to 300H.P. Just as the 250t is a similar 2.0l engine tuned to 250H.P. There are no longer any 3.0l petrol engines in the Jaguar range.

After 5,207 miles of very varied driving I am averaging 27mpg.

Worst experienced was a journey of 18 miles driven entirely in Dynamic mode on twisty single track roads where I managed a mere 13mpg and a near heart attack! I keep promising myself a track day at Knockhill someday soon to see what the beast can do legally!!

The best I have achieved was a journey of 373 miles to York where we obtained 33.3mpg.

However, I didn't buy the vehicle for penny pinching on fuel costs, they are what they are. I did buy for performance and this far exceeds that of my previous 3.0l diesel RRS. As stated earlier, it's horses for courses.

Didn't think being in dynamic mode had any impact on mpg? Stiffens up the suspension a tad, but doesn't change the engine characteristics. Need to change gearbox to sport in order to get the full stated bhp and torques.

Flub!

Any ideas on the performance of the 180d
As I'm considering this but not sure if it's a bit laggy? Does driving in dynamic make much difference

I have always been given a 180D version of various cars (E-Pace, Evoque and a Disco Sport) if my car is in for some work and I suppose it depends on what you're used to. Coming from a 25t F-Pace it doesn't seem too bad but I couldn't live with it for everyday use.

I think it is all a question of expectations and what you are used to driving. I have had a 180d XE and XF loaner and enjoyed driving them both but performance was not the same as my normal car so it felt lacking. However I previously had a 2.0d Audi A6 and enjoyed driving it for 4 years and didn't find that underpowered at the time. I would go with your gut and your budget.

Think I'm going to get the 240D chequered flag with a few add ons!! Got a good deal so looking forward to ordering it- I just wish it came in the noticeable blue colour.
