Hi All,

Well picked it up yesterday and have the biggest smile on my face for some time ,it's a long story living for the last 12 months with the Discovery Sport HSE LUX Auto but have drawn a line under that episode and now looking forward to the F-PACE PORTFOLIO 250t petrol auto

Such a different drive to the disco Sport with good tight build and not a rattle to be heard ,didn't go for the 10 inch touchscreen as had so many quality issues to the one fitted to the DS .

All panels look good ,gearbox smooth as silk and just taking it easy over the first few hundred miles with the engine .

So golf clubs and trolley loaded happy days

Cheers

Hi Swager. Nice choice. You will soon have it in dynamic mode trust me. I'm still smiling after a week. Long may it continue.

Well not the best of days today , just squaring up the F Pace into a parking space and a young driver decided to reverse out of the space opposite me and hit the offside rear . He was very apologetic and showed me his insurance , damaged is light with the rear bumper looks like it has popped out from its holding clips and the lower red reflector broken along with a few scuff marks . He later called me and asked if he could settle the claim without involving his insurance ?

Your thoughts on what I should do ?

Thanks

Hi Swager, that's awful news, hope it doesn't ruin your enjoyment.
I think you should go back to your Jaguar dealer and get a quote for a full repair. Present this quote to the the other guy and let him choose whether it's cash or insurance, it'll be all the same to you, but make sure that he pays you the cash before you leave It in to the garage for the work to be done.
Don't be tempted to get the work done by a non-Jaguar workshop to make it easier on the other guy.
Best regards,
Neil

Hi Swager I agree with Neil. It's unfortunate and he quite possibly feels genuinely bad about what happened but if you start to feel sorry for him then you could end up making decisions that you regret.

I once had a guy reverse into my XKR and push the front grille in. Initially he wanted to pay me cash and I agreed as I thought it could only be £100 max to get it back into place. All was fine. Turns out the whole front bumper needed to come off and the grille replaced as a couple of clips had broken off. £550 in the end. Now the guy changes his mind and starts to say I drove into the back of him.

The other driver probably would have to pay the first £500-£750 and still lose there no claims bonus. So as long as the repair is under £1000 it would be cheaper for him and more importantly a lot lot quicker for you if he gives you the cash for the repair rather than being tied up with insurance companies.
The cash/payment up front route would also mean you don't have to declare the accident to your insurance. saveing your policy, The accident would be on the system and has to be declared for the next 5 years.

Hi All,

And thanks for your advice and agree with the fact that I should go down the insurance route, call my local Jaguar dealer and they advised me to inform my insurance company but the 3rd party wanted to settle the claim himself .
I am taking the F Pace in on Tuesday so they can quote , funny thing was that I had the car cleaned by my local car wash guys and thought what was the car rocking around when they were cleaning and when I got home noticed that one of them had popped the bumper back into place and it doesn't look so painful . I have noticed that there is a crease in the bumper just where it meets the wheel arch so it looks like a new bumper .

Well the bump haven't spoilt the fun in driving it as not sure if it's just me but it seems a lot quicker then the DS along with one really smooth ( Lexus smooth) auto box .

Cheers

Welcome and sorry to hear and read about your issue.

One thing to remember is you also have a claim against your name with your insurer if you go the insurance route, some insurers class it as a claim against you even when it's not your fault, I would read the small print of your car insurance to be safe.

I agree with Neil too.

Get a quote from Jaguar, say it is Jaguar only to fix it and show him the estimate so he can decide. Avoid ins if you can, you will have to tell them on every renewal for 5 years, even non fault, despite what anyone tells you, will increase your premium, especially if something else happens within 5 years... you don't have to tell them to make it cheaper.

On another note, what happened with the Disco sport?

Insurance route all the way. I have gone the Cash Way, it came back later and bit me.

Hi and welcome!

Sorry to hear of your woes. I'm another one to say insurance all the way. I had someone reverse in to me on a car park (before I had the FPace) and dent my wheel arch.
They wanted to pay cash too, but in the end I went insurance. A few days later, my front suspension coil snapped from the impact and the car was un-driveable. If I had just taken money for the original damage, I would have been out of pocket by a long way.... plus if you go through insurance you will get a car whilst yours is in... something I couldn't have managed without.

Good luck

Quoted off Direct Line Policies,

Protected No Claim Discount
No claim discount protection does not protect the overall price of your insurance policy. The price of your insurance policy may increase following an accident even if you were not at fault.

No claim discount protection allows you to make one or more claims before your number of no claim discount years falls.

Ok Guys ,

Have gone down the insurance route using Jaguar approved Sytner Drive as it's a non fault claim so my insurance is not involved .
Not to sure the 3rd party is happy with my decision and I some what fear the worst as he will now try for knock for knock even though I was at a standstill and he hit me .

Anyway the F Pace still drive like a dream and as a engineer well pleased with the build quality and performance .

Well buys ,

Not good news as the 3rd party that hit me is now saying we reversed into each other and as there we now whiteness I am stuffed ,perhaps I should have gone down the private route but hindsight is a wonderful word .

I could get very angry and knock his head off but will move on and get the damaged sorted as I will not let this spoil the fact that I have a great car that ticks all of the boxes .

Sorry for late response regarding the DS, I think it must have been a Friday afternoon build as I had numerous problems with it during the 12 months of ownership from new .The main one being it must have been one of the early 10 inch touchscreens which had a mind of its own , 4 oil changes in 12 months and 4 ad blue top ups in 12k mikes ,auto gearbox issues .,reversing sensors nor working .So in the end Guy Salmon of Bristol did great job in helping me sort out a change out for a F Pace .

Cheers
