Good afternoon all. I'm a happy owner of a 2.0D R Sport, I've had her since last year October time and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. I'll post a little pic of it below so you can have a nosey, however I have a question.

I've decided I'd like an upgrade in the engine department and I'm looking into getting the 3.0 either petrol or diesel. I've spoken to my local dealer and ofcourse they're happy to help but this is pretty much where the happiness ends.

My first offer was of 33500 and that's for trade in and that's webuyandcar bloody money. I can't understand why these guys actually think someone would accept that  someone please reasure me that these haven't depreciated that badly it's only got 7k on it!

I too was the very happy owner of a 2.0d Portfolio until last month, when I mistakenly tried an S, with the 3.0d V6, which I am now the even happier owner of.

I also picked up my trade-in car last October and it also had about 7k on it. While it did take a very painful hit, and the Portfolio should be worth more than the R Sport, from my experience I think you should be expecting at least 10% more for your car, even from main "stealers".

Hello Harper. Lovely looking motor. Mine was the same colour combo. You should enter the first picture for POTM.

Sorry to say that they aren't holding their value in the same as perhaps a Range Rover sport does and it seems the values are about right. Personally I'd keep what you have a bit longer.

Hi All,

Sell it privately - you will get a much better price. I did and got a lot more than the 34 that Jaguar were offering. There was also a lot of interest but mine was a high spec and manual. At the time (May -
June) there were only about 6 manuals for sale on autotrader. Just compare the prices that Jaguar is offering to purchase yours against the price they are selling on Jaguar used approved and sit a few £k below that. That will give you a more accurate indication.

Looking forward to picking up the replacement next week.

Thanks for the input guys nice to have mixed reactions.

Bensales, Thanks for little table thing thats a nice tool but it says there the original price is 37500. Mine was around 43k and that's with minimum extras such as black pack and big wheels I'd say that was just a tad off anyway (atleast i hope). Auto trader valuation actualy says it should achieve over 35k on trade in and thats completley standard R-Sport in good condition (I like autotrader).

Ceddz that was pretty much bang on what I thought too pal.

JLRnumber5 just put a couple on there hope they get picked! May have to get a range rover after all this fuss!!

AJL I'd love to have the time to sell privately but that's where the dealers have me I literally have no time to deal with potential buyers and advertisements. I'm not greedy I know these guys need to make a living but I won't be taken for a ride they'll make enough money without being so disrespectful lol.

I've actually spoken to a few more dealers since this post and had better offers already. I'm putting the poor valuations down to the fact I'm asking for such an early quote as I've still got two months till I can swap over anyway, I suppose the better ones will come in the week before when dealers know the market better and stocks etc.

You will loose a pretty packet as you loose the vat value as soon as you drive it off the forecourt.

Fingers crossed one of the other dealers offers you a suitable offer but you only have to look on Autotrader to see there are many out there so the dealers can be cheeky with there offer.

Hiya Harper,

As JK says above, take 20% VAT off £43k and that make a huge dent in any deal, the VAT alone means the vehicle is £34.6 without dealership costs, and as you're probably aware most are under huge pressure now to have dealerships looking like the one at Oxford, it is planned that they all look the same, my local one in Southampton is moving in the near future. So, unfortunately it's how the flip flops and they make the money off the likes of us. They're all expected to make £....... per trade per car.

Sorry to be the harmonger of doom. But, enjoy the new car when you get it. I'm keeping my current one.

I appreciate that it takes time to sell privately but when the difference in offers is £4k it's worth taking the time. Interesting table but my original cost was £46.5k.

Worth looking at the options for sale but a few good points mentioned and one that hasn't. The options element in terms of resale value diminishes as time goes on as well so you may well have paid 6K in extras but somebody looking at that model sees a brand new one at 37.5 and certainly after a few years extras are worth way less and become less of a calculation for many.
That and the VAT is where your taking the main hit,
I must say the V6 petrol is fantastic though :) I darent even look at values for mine.
