Just thought I'd start the thread in readiness...

Apparently it's coming to a cinema near you very soon.....

I wonder what the 'Helmet' will become then?

Got the 18D version update and lo and behold the audio is crackling on most sources, phone call audio and music via USB stick constantly cutting out... Never had this on phase 2 :(

Any suggestions?

Mines fine get it straight back to the dealer as it sounds more like a physical problem that has been shown up by updating the firmware. Mine is clear and crisp, USB is still not 100% reliable, but that is nothing new since any of my Jags had a USB interface.

Got 18D installed last weekend and everything is working absolutely fine. For now...

Well, after a couple of thousand trouble free miles in my FP, the ICTP screen went totally black today whilst out driving and would not come on, no matter what I tried. Even turned off, locked the car and left it whilst I went shopping, expecting it to come good when I got back. No chance.

So, I'm left with a fully loaded FP that now has no radio, no music of any kind, no sat nav, no telephone, no parking sensors, no park assist, no reversing camera, faulty speed sign recognition, partial lane keep assist and so on.

I'll be at the dealers in the morning to see what they can do.

I knew I was buying into a car where the infotainment system was known to be buggy, but to not work at all, that's something else.

As a minimum, I'd expect an update to 18D and probably a new head-unit in the first instance, and of course a courtesy car for myself (suitable for my baby's car seat and pram), for the duration of the repair.

By the way, I should add that the current version is either 3 or 3.5 - as I've got park assist, I don't have the helmet icon. Nor have I worked out if the car can read text messages out to me. I'd expect the update to v4. As I have the sim slot in the armrest, I'd also expect Apple CarPlay to be implemented.

From you last post you have an iPhone apple doesn't seem to support SMS to speech over bluetooth at present where Android does. Sounds very much like you have a controller failure, the ICTP is basically a micro PC which is situated in the tail section of the car. Not sure what operating system it is running yet but most likely to be linux based as most systems like that are. It's not an off the peg system that JLR have adapted but one they seem to have built from almost scatch. If was off the shelf someone would by now have publish hacks and cracks to get into much like the Denso systems of previous Jags and other cars.
At least it has happened in warranty I can't imagine how much JLR will charge for a replacement unit.

Took the car into the local dealership at the weekend - even though the screen had come good again, they seemed very unsurprised to hear of my trouble with the ICTP system and have booked it in for a software update at the end of the month.

The chap on the booking in desk even mentioned that although they'd be putting version 4 of the software on, there was a version 5 coming in the near future, hinting that there's things that still need improving on version 4.

Oh well, I get to slum it in an XE, hopefully for no longer than a day as it's not ideal for my ISOfix child seat kit, and then we'll see what the V4 experience is like.

Remember to ask for Apple Car play / android auto free , if you've had issues with ICTP this will save you paying for that update later.

You mean it's possible to update the car software (this is the same as the ICTP software isn't it?) to version 4 and NOT put Apple Car Play on? I have the SIM slot in the armrest (although have yet to find a SIM that works!), so my FP is ACP compatible.

Yes some less scrupulous dealers are trying to charge for enabling car play ( smart phone pack) .
The tendency is to give this free if you have current issues with ICTP, which you have.

So make sure you ask for car play on top of the software update which should now be 18D (phase 4.)
Having the sim means it should be ok to add CarPlay.

Why do you need the sim for carplay? Thought it just used your phone data? Is that the same for android?

Re sims I just use the 12 month 12gb three ones you can buy on amazon which work fine. I see now they even have one that lasts 24 months for 24gb.

Cars sold in markets where the 'Connect' package was not available (I.e. no SIM card, no WiFi connectivity) were fitted with a different (presumably cheaper) USB port than cars with the connect package. It turns out, then, that these USB ports do not support CarPlay (or Android Auto) and that is the relationship between SIM cards and CarPlay. Apparently Jaguar are quietly embarrassed about this, but not sufficiently embarrassed to replace the USB ports to provide CarPlay. Serious bummer for those of us who looked forward to CarPlay and use of a proper satnav system!

I specified I wanted ICTP 4 loaded as part of my deal when I bought my used F-Pace.

I had to go back after I'd taken delivery as they had to reload the software to sort a mobile phone sync issue. The salesman said I had the Apple/Android Carplay installed for free but pointed out that it was usually a paid for extra, the reason being due to JLR having to pay for the software licensing.

I am astonished that dealers would scrimp in this way - presumably loading CarPlay/AA means another hour or two in the workshop taking up space and therefore 'costing' the dealer who could be getting on with emptying another customer's wallet for something mundane like an oil change.

As to JLR having to pay for the software license, that's true, but it isn't on a per-car basis - it'll be a blanket license covering multiple models and a pretty much unlimited number of cars. I asked for Apple Carplay to be put on mine before collection, but was told by the dealer that there had to be a fault or other reason to do a software update - they couldn't just do it because I wanted it. Needless to say, I haven't been back to them, not just for their attitude, but also because they're not my local dealer.

version 4 (18B) didn't have ACP or AA installed but from 18C it appears to be standard, Mine's a MY19 which when I ordered it May last year there were still no brochures ACP and AA were listed as coming soon. I had issues with USB play so when I finally got round to getting it sorted 18D was available so they updated to that. ACP and AA don't offer enough above ICTP and I.Apps and the screen quality is not brilliant so I probably won't use regularly as you lose all the nice ICTP features.

In the beggining I was thinking the same, but last week my F-Pace received the latest 18D and Smartphone pack activation and ACP and AA is fully working - and my car does not have SIM card telematics module installed. Previously it received the 18C and the dealer could not activate the Smartphone pack, so seems to me that activation of smartphone pack is related with the VIN/Region where the vehicle is, not with the software release itself. Same for the Wifi, SIM card or telematics module pre-installed - does not matter.

Does your car has the Wifi module? Dealer told me it was not possible in my car.

I am guessing that the ICTP has to be done by the dealer? We just got a 3 month old ex-demo and the 18C version is installed.
Yes the software is a dealer update , (map updates are downloadable to USB). 18D is the latest software.

The software versions are very region and country dependent. What has been added to 18D may not be allowed in certain regions so won't be rolled out until they have made an update suitable for that region.
It is very common I have been updating JLR cars for sometime adding Voice to XF's enabling parts that people add and the region is always embedded. A good example is Video in Motion which is banned in Europe but available in the middle east and china I had to override the region check for that parameter so the guy could get it to work. Why I still don't know. I can't do any cars from 2017 as I only have the standard VCI and not the new DOIP VCI which all the cars need.

I am tearing my hair out and my wife is killing me for updating the software.. I had 2.5 and it was mostly fine but then got lured by android auto + needing to fix the recall issue.

As it turns out, I haven't used Android Auto at all - the screen is so washed out and my wife can't control the music on usb from there..

Now the biggest issue - pre-update I could plug in a usb stick with music on it, every time I turned on the car it would continue playing perfectly from the previous track in shuffle mode which is all we care about

Post-update however, it goes back to the very first track alphabetically, it seems to reset from shuffle mode, and then skips like crazy every few seconds... the only solution that seems to work (and tells me its not a sudden issue with the usb stick itself) is to wait a while, then unplug the usb stick, then plug it back in, then turn on shuffle mode and then it will start playing normally

Clearly that is not a long term solution though!

Does anyone have any suggestions for potential fixes (including if jaguar themselves can do anything)? Is it also possible to copy music the usb stick to the internal hard-drive at all and play from there?

My wife swore that if I don't get it fixed she'll stop getting in the car with me!!

I have the exact same problem, and it happens as well with the internal HDD. I have an XF (X260) 2017. I recently updated the multimedia system because I was having other issues. I don't have the internet connectivity and another issue that I have is when I receive a traffic alert (RDS) and I'm listening to USB or HDD, once the alert is finished the media stops working.
