Brake squeak driving me crazy

Brakes (think it's front driver side, but not 100%) started squeaking intermittently around 6 weeks ago. Took it to dealer who could not find any issue but messed about with it for an hour cleaning various bits and said it was unlikely to re-occur. One the way home squeak started again :|

Took it back in a week later (having noticed in the interim that brake squeak seemed particularly noticeable when the weight was bearing forward ie, coming down level by level out of a multi-story car park) Two hours of cleaning, test drive etc, assured me it would be fine. Squeak re-occurred that evening. I received a call the following morning to check that I was happy with service received, I said "no" as problem had not been rectified - caller sounded concerned and said she would get someone to call me right away - the rest of the day went by, no call :(

I then called the following morning and was put through to a senior guy in the service department who then admitted there was a "known issue" with F-Pace brakes and that a new brake pad was being developed. When I asked how long they had known about the fault I was told "quite a while" and he could not explain why I had had two wasted journeys into the dealership for an issue they know they cannot apparently correct. When I asked when these new brake pads will be available I received the rather ambiguous reply "a few weeks". I have asked them to call me with an update after Christmas but am not hopeful.

Meanwhile I am driving round in a car that is attracting glances not for its lovely looks, but for the ear-piercing screech it makes. Not happy at all

Hi, this is the same fault as my wife's Evoque,... and she was told a new pad was being developed and tested!! Finally got the new pads installed over a year later ,.... and just before JLR exchanged her vehicle for another Evoque! So far 5000 miles and no squeaks,..... however my F pace @ 14,000 miles has now decided to start to squel first thing every morning for the first few braking manoeuvres!!

Regards JC.

One of my courtesy car Velars had the same problem. But the screeching brakes only affected it while cold for the first few applications and then it was gone. Is that the case for you?

Never had it on the courtesy F-Pace cars we were given after rejecting our Jaguar. Our own Velar is fine. Odd how they differ.

Yes, it only occurs when the vehicle is 'cold'. I suspect many owners will be affected by this problem once their vehicles have covered 15-20k miles!

My Discovery Sport had this problem when cold, new pads were developed. Mine had the front discs and pads changed, it's much better now only squeaks on the first brake application very occasionally.

Yes dumped the DS after only 12 months as had the same issues with the breaks and various other problems now the F Pace has started to do the same after 3 months on cold mornings 3500k on the clock . So not amused and will having a chat with the dealer along with sorting out Jag remote .other then that after 3 months of ownership we'll pleased with the F Pace

Cheers

Anyone had this issue fixed?
The "squeaking" started just before Xmas after ~21k miles.
Car is booked in next a Tuesday.

Mine got fixed today. Quoted SSM73707 from Topix.
They changed new rear break pads and greased brake saddles.

I am a happy camper, got winter wiper mode also configured, pretty much necessity here.

New front brake pads fitted.
They were not ready to be changed, but seems to have fixed the problem.
I will repost of the problem comes back.

Mine started a few weeks ago. Squeaks first thing in the morning for the first few presses on the brake peddle. Sounds like it's the drivers front.
I was going to call the dealer, I didn't know it was a common fault until reading this thread.

Mines started to do the same and it only has 2000 miles on the clock. Anyone know what the cause is and what the fix is to it??

Mine does the same but only on cold mornings, then just for the first couple of brake depressions. All clear after that. I put it down to the disks being "cleaned" by the pads as the car is kept outside on the drive overnight.

Been advised new pad fitted to front discs today
Picking up tomorrow night so will update

Mine has done this from about 2500 miles, now at 22,500. It only happens when cold. They looked at it when first serviced but didn't fix it and I don't have time for endless back and forth with the dealer while they try to figure it out.

Another thing on the list for them next time it's serviced along with the ICTP upgrade - hopefully by then they have figured out a fix...

All cars with open type wheels that display the break disc
Are a bit Squeaky first few presses of the pedal it's due to moisture on the disk from rain or overnight mist etc.
My f pace does it so dose our type R it's normal as long as it didn't persists beyound a few presses of the pedals

My car went in for a ICPT update.
I mentioned front brake squeal they said it was a known fault and new brake pads were supplied and fitted.
also mentioned screen washers and they were also replaced for uprated parts

has anyone got any updates on this issue? When I contacted dealer in December about squealing brakes I was told that Jaguar would be issuing a solution by February. I haven't been getting my phonecalls returned by the service department when I have called last week so has anyone had their discs replaced yet because of this problem?

Hi,

Its funny my car did that squeal since day 2 from new and it's the driver side front but after 2 to 3 break applications first thing in morning or if it has been parked whole day makes it specially when it's cold and then disappears.
I have not tried complaining this matter since it disappears in a short while.
All I can think of it is the quality of material used for discs/pads is cheap.
Front windscreen is by Fuyao, side windows are pilkinton, panoramic glass roof is some other manufacturer  3 brands in 1 car , headlights xenons assembly looks so cheap again it's amazing what's going wrong inside JLR, my first ever jaguar probably the last one.

My wife has a RR Evoque. Complete with squealing brakes on a cold day. RR dealt with this under warranty and exchanged the pads to a better quality. Problem resolved.

Our dealer never got back to us with the promised Jaguar solution to the squeal, so when we were due our first service we requested that the brake squeal be fixed. On arrival at the dealers for my service, I was told that they wouldn't be doing anything with the brakes! Which caused a long heated conversation with the service manager, he suggested I ring JLR customer relations. Which I did, but was told by them that the dealer had to raise a case first before they would talk to me!!! Anyway, after 3 days (I had their loan car which they wanted back) I had a phonecall from JLR at 2pm to say they have agreed "as a gesture of goodwill" to replace the discs & pads". Phonecall from dealers at 4pm to say work was done. When picking up the car I enquired what had actually been done and was told they replaced rear discs & pads only. I asked if they had used a different spec to the original parts but was told they were the same. Next morning there was a slight squeal on 1st braking, but this morning the brake squeal was back as before. So my questions to the group are:- How long would a disc & pad replacement take to do? is 2 hours too quick? And also the newer cars don't seem to have this problem so have JLR changed the spec & materials of discs & pads and how could I find this out? Any info would be great as I will now have to escalate this issue. P.s. the squeal can not be in any sense of the word be described as "normal" it is ear piercing if you happen to be a pedestrian standing at the junction when i pull up.

If they have changed it they would look brand new , you can tell easily.
It's the material I think JLR is using maybe, due to cold weather it squeals and in warmer days it squeals less but that's for first few break applications, what I have noticed when you are breaking gently you hear squeal do a bit aggressive breaking and it's gone.
Totally my experience and I never bothered complaining honestly as I had other bigger issues with the car which needed sorting and then I gave up. :D luckily till now all looks good except in a month or 3 I need to top up a little bit of coolant.

Thanks.

Regards,
KJ

Strip the brakes, remove the pads, clean everything, clean the slide pins, check the disc protectors are in proper condition, not warped or loose. Check the pads in the carrier, ensure they're not binding, clean off any rust/dirt as found. Reassemble, using a small amount of copper grease to the rear surface of the pads. If the discs are heavily glazed, scored or unevenly worn, replacement discs and pads may be the better option.
